“I Want A Smiling Child / Wildpeace”

The current conflict has left me lost for words, again and again. In the end, I put something together from the words of others: a reminder that we must hold sacred the humanity of others, even and especially now.

These lines, from Darwish’s poem “A Soldier Dreams of White Lilies” and Amichai’s “Wildpeace,” speak to me of a commitment to life and a rejection of dehumanizing violence, and the belief that whatever paths the future may hold for us, we must find them together.

Gratitude

The paper was generously donated by Jon Drew, and the typesetting and printing would not have been possible without the guidance and mentorship of Erin Maurelli, who went out of her way to make this happen. My studio time at MCBA was (as it always is) sweetened by the support of Elysa Voshell and Molly Poganski. MCBA’s commitment to lifting up a diversity of voices, exemplified by their investment in Arabic and Hebrew types, continues to inspire me.
