Hearing Her Voice: LGBTQ Jewish Women Speak From the Past (O‘ahu Jewish Ohana)
February 15, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeThis session uses havruta-style study, a traditional Jewish mode of paired learning, to explore how Jewish women who love women have been represented, and how they have represented themselves, in texts from antiquity to the 20th century. Contrasting how lesbianism was understood by Talmudic and medieval rabbinic authorities to the lives of Jewish lesbians recorded in the 19th and 20th centuries, this session offers a window into the complexities of queer Jewish life in history and today. No previous Hebrew knowledge or Jewish experience necessary.
